HOW GOOD A PROBLEM SOLVER ARE YOU?

HOW GOOD A PROBLEM SOLVER ARE YOU?

Most of us consider ourselves to be reasonably capable problem solvers. Well, today it is time to test that notion. Consider each of the three actual situations below, select your choice from the optional solutions and then read what actually was decided.

PROBLEM 1: THE SITUATION
A customer in an American restaurant was seated by the hostess for dinner. When the waiter, a black man, presented her with the menu she called the hostess over and asked to see the manager. She told the manager that she did not want an African American waiter to serve her, so the manager had a Caucasian waiter work her table.

If you were the manager what would you have done?
A  Told the lady that all the waiters were qualified and he would not replace the waiter.
B   Tell the woman if she was not happy she was free to leave.
C   Wait upon the table himself, to appease the customer.

THE ACTUAL RESOLUTION: The manager replaced the waiter. He was then dismissed from his job as he had violated the companies “discrimination” policy by siding with the customer’s request! Apparently, even customer service can be a dangerous practice these days!

PROBLEM 2: THE SITUATION
A man in Texas filmed himself licking ice cream in a container and putting it back in the freezer of a Walmart supermarket. He posted the video on social media. Surveillance cameras in the shop showed he later took the ice cream back out of the freezer and bought it.

If you were the manager what would you have done?
A   Ignored the incident as no harm had been done and the licked ice cream had been removed.
B   Confronted the young man and demanded he leave the store.
C   Have security apprehend the man and turn him over to the police.

THE ACTUAL RESOLUTION: The young man was apprehended and charged with misdemeanour criminal mischief and was given a six-month suspended sentence, 100 hours of unpaid volunteer work, a $1,000 fine, and was ordered to pay $1,565 to the ice cream company which removed and replaced all of the ice cream in the freezer! Further evidence no one can take a joke anymore!

PROBLEM 3: THE SITUATION
In a Madison, Wisconsin high school, a black student was caught stealing another student’s cell phone. The Vice Principal asked a black security guard to escort the student out of the school. As the guard was evicting the student, the student called the guard a nigger several times along with using other inappropriate language. The guard defended himself and told the kid to stop calling him a nigger.

If you had been the vice-principal, in this case, would you have:
A   Done just exactly what was done by the school
B   Called in the police and turned the student in for theft
C   Suspended the student from school for his actions.

THE ACTUAL RESOLUTION:
Of course, it will not surprise you, that the guard was fired for violating school board policy for using derogatory language against a student! The only sign of intelligence was a demonstration organized the next day by both white and black students demanding the guard be reinstated. The school board is reviewing the case. I am just shaking my head!

If any of you came up with the same solution as the actual decision-makers, you should consider seeking professional help immediately!
